چکیده

This review focuses on the effects of altitude exposure from 1 to several days or weeks as occurs in tourists, trekkers, and mountaineers who visit high altitude and normally reside near sea level. We briefly review the acute physiological adjustments and early acclimatization that occur in the cardiovascular system and the lungs of healthy individuals. These ensure life-sustaining oxygen delivery to the tissues despite a reduction in the partial pressure of inspired oxygen between 20% and 60% at 2500 and 8000 m, respectively. One of the acute adjustments, hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV), may be disadvantageous in those with a vigorous response and lead to 2 potentially lethal illnesses, high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and subacute mountain sickness (SAMS), which we present in more detail. Finally, on the basis of knowledge about the acute physiological adjustments and acclimatization and, when available, a review of the literature, we discuss the highaltitude tolerance of patients with coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, systemic hypertension, and pulmonary hypertension.

Supplemental L-arginine Modulates Developmental Pulmonary Hypertension in Broiler Chickens Fed Reduced-Protein Diets and Reared at High Altitude

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplemental L-arginine (ARG) in reduced-protein diets on cardiopulmonary performance and intestinal morphology in the broilers reared at high altitude. A total of 156 day-old male broilers were randomly assigned to 3 treatments and 4 replicates of 13 chicks and reared up to 42 days of age. Treatment groups were designed as a normal-prote...

Introduction: The purpose of this research was to explain the protective effect of quercetin on cardiac fatigue caused by exercise in skyrunning runners. Methods: 26 professional sky running athletes voluntarily and purposefully participated in this race. Random people were placed in 2 groups: quercetin (13 people) and placebo (13 people). The race was held in the central Alborz mountains, the...

The Effect of Altitude and Aspect on Rangeland Plant Diversity (Case Study: Dashte Zahab, Kermanshah, Iran)

Recognizing the herbaceous plant species diversity could use as an importantindicator applied for the rangeland and forests management. Considering the presence ofvegetation and animal husbandry in Zagros region, Iran, being aware of the diversity andrichness of plant species is necessary to management or the destructed vegetationrestoration. In order to study the effect of aspect and elevation...

Estimation of Photon Specific Absorbed Fractions in Digimouse Voxel Phantom using Monte Carlo Simulation Code FLUKA

Background: Most preclinical studies are carried out on mice. For internal dose assessment of a mouse, specific absorbed fraction (SAF) values play an important role. In most studies, SAF values are estimated using older standard human organ compositions and values for limited source target pairs. Objective: SAF values for monoenergetic photons of energies 15, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 4000 keV...

Investigation of the Effect of Topography on Vegetative and Propagation Characteristics of Amygdalus scoparia in South Khorasan Range Ecosystems

Study of vegetation and environmental factors is considered as one of the important aspects in the management and conservation of natural ecosystems. This research investigates the effect of altitude from sea level (ASL) (in four classes: less than 1600 m, 1600-1800, 2000-1800 and more than 2000 m) and the direction of slope (in four main directions: north, south, east and west) on vegetative a...
